Mission

Our mission is to provide customers with high quality products made from reclaimed timber salvaged along British Columbia’s West Coast.

Vision

“To merge beauty and functionality together and create something special for your needs.”

Our Process

For us the process starts with sourcing fallen timber that is left over from the logging or other forestry practices. We then gain permission or permits depending on public or private land to reclaim the wood. We hand select our wood for both design and quality to allow for less waste throughout the creation process. Once the timber has been sourced we mill the wood and begin the drying process by starting with air drying and finishing off in a professional kiln at a local sawmill. After the piece is fully dried to a moisture content of 10-12% we begin work on bringing the wood to back to life and showing off its extraordinary grain, color and figure.

History

Coastal Timber Creations was established in the fall of 2018. After working in forestry for a few years we noticed the amount of waste wood left in cut blocks from logging operations and thought that timber still had some life left within. Typically any timber left behind in cut blocks is because it does not make a certain grade, its too rotten and cracked or its simply not valuable enough. We aim to do something about this left over timber and put it to good use by showcasing the beauty it what some forest companies think of as waste.

Our favorite species of wood to work with is Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum in latin) because of the unique characteristics found within the wood. We specifically look for Timber that has a combination of figure (ranging from curly maple and quilted maple to flame and birdseye) and grain/color (ranging from spalting and rich color to staining and clear growth lines.)

Future

Here at Coastal Timber we are looking at new ways to recycle and reuse left over timber. We are now looking at partnering with local tree service companies as a value added approach for their clients! By working together we can offer clients custom milling of their trees for a fee, agree upon trade deals for time and timber and even conduct log purchasing if the grade of wood meets our standards!

Additionally we are looking to partner with furniture companies, wood shops and custom high end wood workers where some of our quilted maple will be turned into musical instruments for many more to enjoy!

Do you have a company that’s looking for more sustainable timber options? How about a increasing options for your clients? Feel free to contact us today and lets work together!
